Renovation: House Daşyürek

The building, located in Ankara’s Çayyolu district, an area characterized by individual residential parcels, reflects the typical material, color, and architectural approach of the period in which it was built through its façade design.

Our main approach in the façade renovation was to preserve the building’s existing architectural identity and its characteristic features from that era as much as possible, while at the same time adopting an architectural language that provides a contemporary, innovative, and aesthetically refined appearance in harmony with the overall building.

Form and Function Redefined
Design Approach
In the façade composition, the balanced use of three main materials – stone, wood, and glass – introduced a natural yet modern design approach, breaking the monolithic perception of the existing structure and enriching it visually with a dynamic character. The vertical application of natural stone emphasized the massing of the building, creating a sophisticated contrast between vertical and horizontal elements.

The continuity of wooden material beneath the wide roof overhangs created a visual coherence and a warm atmosphere throughout the building. This detail provided a fluid transition between different façade elements, enriching the perceived spatial quality of the exterior.
One of the most important interventions in the façade arrangement was the redesign of window proportions, which directly affected the perception of the interior. This modification not only optimized natural light intake but also reinforced the modern aesthetic of the façade, redefining the relationship between interior and exterior spaces.

Another critical aspect of the façade design was strengthening the entrance axis. In its existing state, the entrance appeared vague and lacked spatial impact. With the new design, the entrance was redefined as more than just a doorway—it became a “transitional space” within the sequence of enclosed, semi-open, and open areas, preparing the user for the exterior space. In this way, the entrance was transformed into a welcoming and striking focal point, enriched by carefully considered architectural details, offering a strong sense of representation and hospitality.
