Kaynaşlı Vocational School, affiliated with Düzce University and located in the Kaynaşlı district of Düzce Province, is distinguished by its sustainability-focused design approach, which incorporates strategies to reduce the carbon footprint and utilize renewable energy sources.
The building complex includes facilities dedicated to social and cultural activities, which serve as central elements of the design. Complemented by thoughtfully integrated landscape architectural features, the project is endowed with a cohesive and holistic identity that promotes community engagement and environmental responsibility.
The building consists of two identical structures oriented along a north–south axis, each accommodating various academic departments as well as associated support units. The complex comprises a basement and three upper floors, functionally planned and organized as follows:
Basement: technical rooms, shelter, kitchen, and storage areas Ground floor: classrooms, laboratories, workshops, lecture halls, a 175-seat conference hall, and a cafeteria First floor: classrooms, laboratories, and workshops Second floor: library, meeting rooms, offices for academic staff, and administrative units
This floor also includes roof terraces with greenery.
The spatial concept is characterized by generous corridor and gallery areas that provide space for temporary exhibitions. A key design principle is the alternating sequence of open, semi-open, and enclosed spaces.
Since students spend a significant amount of time on campus, the connection between interior and exterior spaces has been deliberately strengthened. This has resulted in spaces that foster social interaction and significantly enhance the quality of stay. The building complex is complemented by landscaped design elements that accommodate sports and cultural activities, giving the ensemble a clear and holistic identity.
